In addition, you may also qualify for many state relief programs, like the Tennessee state government’s property tax relief program. Read on to learn more about who qualifies for property tax relief, how it works, and how to apply.

Is There a Tennessee Stimulus Check in 2024?

There are no new Tennessee stimulus checks coming in 2024. While the Economic Impact payments sent by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) during the coronavirus pandemic had been a major help for millions of Volunteers State residents, President Biden has no plans of issuing any further benefit payments through the American Rescue Plan or the CARES Act initiatives, and the deadline for filing your taxes and claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit is May 17, 2024.

If you’re facing financial hardship, you may want to check if you qualify for the federal benefit programs first. You may also want to take advantage of any other tax relief programs offered by the Tennessee state government.

Tennessee doesn’t have a state-level Child Tax Credit (CTC), Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), or Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) for taxpayers.

You can still claim the federal tax credits to lower your tax obligations and get a larger tax refund.

Tennessee also has a property tax relief program for disabled and low-income elderly homeowners, disabled veterans, and their surviving spouses. The state program began in 1973 and was funded by appropriations authorized by the General Assembly. Each year, more than 100,000 qualifying homeowners in Tennessee receive benefits through this program.

“It should be noted that property tax relief provided by the state of Tennessee is technically considered reimbursement of property taxes that have been paid by homeowners who qualify for this assistance,” explains Brad Reichert, founder and managing director of Reichert Asset Management. “This reimbursement can be considered a form of tax credit,” Reichert shares.
