For many Arizona residents, a stimulus payment can prove to be of great financial assistance when they’re trying to keep up with bills. While there are no new Arizona stimulus checks coming, other resources are available.

The Arizona Families Tax Rebate is one such payment you may qualify for. Read on to learn more about the eligibility requirements, how much you can receive, and how to claim the benefit.

Is There an Arizona State Stimulus Check in 2024?

The government hasn’t announced any new Arizona stimulus checks in 2024. However, you may still qualify for the Families Tax Rebate. Arizona doesn’t offer a state-level Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC).

Another pending bill from the Arizona State Senate, SB 1148, could also provide a tax credit for seniors, according to Brad Reichert, a debt expert and the founder and managing director of Reichert Asset Management LLC. “The bill, proposed by Senator Anthony Kern, would give Arizona residents who are age 65 and older a one-time $250 rebate if the new legislation gets passed in the state in the spring of 2024,” explains Reichert.

Arizona Stimulus Check 2023: Families Tax Rebate

If you’re looking for information about new stimulus checks, it’s worth checking if you qualify for the Families Tax Rebate. Due to the successful passing of Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs’ bipartisan budget in 2023, the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is issuing a one-time payment.

Most of these payments were issued by direct deposit, in November, 2023, and the rest of those Arizona state income tax filers who qualify were sent a paper check by mail, to the address on their 2021 Arizona income tax return.  If you did not receive this rebate, you may still be eligible to claim it, pending you meet the criteria for receiving it.

This one-time rebate recognizes the contributions made to Arizona’s thriving economy, by hard-working Arizona families living in the state, most especially those efforts and sacrifices made during the COVID-19 pandemic. The rebate is issued as part Arizona Senate Bill 1734, which was passed by the state legislature and signed into law in May, 2023.

How Does the Arizona Families Tax Rebate Work?

A rebate is a return of taxes paid, from the federal or state government, back to the taxpayer in the form of a direct cash payment. If you meet the eligibility requirements, the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) will issue a one-time payment to you. The Arizona government has also launched a website where you can check your eligibility and rebate status, update your mailing address, and file a claim.

This rebate is subject to federal income tax, so you’ll need to report it to the IRS as part of your adjusted gross income for the 2023 tax year. ADOR is issuing a Form 1099-MISC, Miscellaneous Information, for this rebate. The rebate is not subject to state income tax.
